An inverter is an electronic device that converts alternating current (AC) into alternating current of different frequency and voltage. The main purpose of the inverter is to change the characteristics of the current or voltage, which can have several uses, including speed regulation of drive systems, voltage control, or creating frequencies for various purposes. Inverters are used in a wide range of applications, from electronics and electrical engineering to energy, and contribute to the efficient use of energy and control of various systems.


How it works: An inverter takes alternating current at one voltage and frequency and transforms it into another alternating current at a different voltage and frequency. This conversion is achieved through semiconductor switches (such as transistors, IGBTs, etc.) controlled by electronic circuits. Switches open and close, changing the current and voltage characteristics. In this way, the inverter can change the output frequency (and thus the speed of movement or revolutions of the system) and the output voltage.

Application: Inverters have many different uses:

Motor Speed Control: In applications such as automotive propulsion, ventilation systems, pumps, and more, inverters change the frequency of the current supplied to the motor, changing its speed and power.

Alternative energy sources: Inverters are used to convert alternating current produced by solar panels or wind turbines into alternating current suitable for electrical grids.

Powering devices with different voltages: Inverters can be used to convert voltages between different devices, for example when using electronics from other countries with reduced voltage.

Backup power: Inverters can be part of backup power systems, where they can operate devices based on another power source, such as batteries or generators, in the event of a power outage.

Types of inverters: There are several types of inverters, including:

AC to AC (AC-AC) inverters: These change the frequency and voltage of AC to another level.

Alternating current to direct current (AC-DC) inverters: These convert alternating current to direct current. They are used, for example, when recharging batteries.

Direct current to alternating current (DC-AC) inverters: These change direct current to alternating current. They are used, for example, in the operation of electronics from batteries.

Inverters have a significant impact on modern technology and are key components of many systems that affect our everyday technology experience.
