electric boilers

Electric boilers work in a hot water heating system in the same way as gas boilers with a burner. The regulation of an electric boiler is also very similar. Even the regulators that are used to regulate boilers and heating are the same. The electric boiler can be used as a universal heat source for heating in apartments, small family houses or recreational facilities.

Electric boilers are also used as an additional source for newer methods of heating such as a heat pump or solar thermal collectors. In cold periods, when the primary source does not heat the object for thermal comfort, the electric boiler is also switched on. The indisputable advantage of an electric boiler is very low acquisition costs - there is no need for an expensive gas connection or a chimney.

Electric heating has long been frowned upon, primarily due to high costs and the rising cost of electricity. Today, modern electric boilers are considered ecological devices. Their main advantage is simple installation and easy operation. What should you know about electric boilers before you buy one? What are the heating costs? And how much does such an electric boiler cost?

Electric heating is said to be the most expensive. Today, this is clearly no longer the case. The suitability of the heat source for a particular house depends on the level of insulation, heat losses and the lifestyle of the household. Electric boilers are therefore back in the game, mainly due to their ease of use and good efficiency. Experts recommend them especially in buildings that are well insulated. This means that they have low heat loss and do not need so much energy for heating. Such buildings mainly include low-energy or passive houses.

Advantages and disadvantages of an electric boiler

Electric boilers are ecological sources of heat, with clean operation. Unlike coal boilers, fireplace stoves or pellet boilers, you don't have to find fuel and deal with its storage. In addition, electric boilers are not noisy, and with regard to the aforementioned clean operation, you can install them directly in the apartment.

In addition, electric boilers do not need a chimney and their assembly and operation are very simple. Compared to heat pumps or automatic solid fuel boilers, the purchase price of electric boilers is incomparably lower.

The main disadvantage of electric boilers is the price of electricity. Although it has stagnated in the last few years, it is difficult to predict its further development. The price of electricity is affected by supply and demand on the market, it is affected by state regulations, shutdowns of nuclear power plants and the production of energy from renewable sources.

There are two main types of electric boilers on the market:

Direct heating electric boiler
The direct heating electric boiler has almost maintenance-free, noiseless operation and its advantage is immediate performance. The disadvantage is the higher consumption of electricity for heating.

Electric boiler with storage tank
An electric boiler with heat storage does not require full electrical power, but space for a water storage tank must be taken into account.

By accumulating heat, the electric boiler works on the so-called The hot water principle, when resistance heating rods heat the water in the heating system. It is then driven by a circulation pump to the radiators or to the underfloor heating. Electric boilers with water heating can therefore also be used for central heating.

Most often, the output of electric boilers ranges from 4 to 60 kW and can thus cover the heating of smaller rooms and larger houses. The power of the electric boiler must be selected taking into account the heat loss of the building. As for brands, electric boilers from various manufacturers are sold, such as Protherm, Bosch or Mora. The TZB designer, who will design the heating system for your house, will advise you on choosing the right type of boiler.

Electric boiler - heating costs
When choosing an electric boiler, as when choosing any other heat source, it is necessary to know the heat loss of the house. The lower it is, the better, because you won't be drawing as much electricity. Heating with electricity is thus particularly worthwhile in modern low-energy buildings, or in older houses after thorough insulation.
