Gel batteries have become an alternative to traditional lead acid batteries. In contrast, gel models are maintenance-free, which means they do not require electrolyte top-ups. Their advantages include a sealed casing and gel electrolyte. This ensures trouble-free operation, allows the battery to be stored in any position and offers greater impact resistance.

Durability of the gel battery
One of the biggest advantages of gel batteries is their long service life. Of all the batteries available on the market, this type boasts the longest lifespan, as they can last up to several years with proper use. Importantly, gel batteries are also more resistant to changing and extreme weather conditions.

Gel batteries can be stored for many months without recharging. Their capacity drops to: - 91% after 3 months - 82% after 6 months - 64% after 9 months

Choosing a gel battery
Suitable dimensions are not everything. When choosing a battery, pay attention to its capacity - it should be no more than 110% or less than 90% of the recommended capacity for the device you plan to power. Also important is the output voltage, which must be very close to the recommended value (+/- 0.2 V).

Application of gel batteries
Gel batteries are used in applications such as motorcycles, golf carts and lawn mowers. They are also used in uninterruptible power supplies, photovoltaic systems, alarms and electric toys. Furthermore, these batteries can be found in vehicles with a large number of electrical devices, such as caravans. In these cases, they are not used to start the vehicle, but to power electronic devices.

For the charger to work properly and not damage the battery, it must have the correct current and voltage. These values will vary at different stages of charging, so it is worth choosing an automatic charger that not only adjusts the charging current and voltage, but also switches off when the battery is fully charged.
