Shelly 1 Gen4 is a single-channel smart relay that fits into a flush-mounting box behind a switch or socket. You can control the switched circuit from your phone, by voice or automatically according to a schedule. In heating applications it is useful wherever a device needs to be switched on or off remotely or a control signal has to be sent.
Its main advantage is the potential-free (dry) contact: the switched circuit is separated from the relay's power supply. This makes it suitable for devices that only need two terminals to be bridged, for example a boiler with an input for a room thermostat. Before connecting, check in the boiler manual that it has such an input. The contact is rated up to 16 A at 240 V~ and 10 A at 30 V⎓.
The relay uses a new-generation chip and supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ax, Bluetooth 5, Zigbee and Matter, so it can be integrated into Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings or Home Assistant. It also acts as a Zigbee signal repeater, which helps in homes with weak coverage.
Your own logic runs directly in the device: 20 schedules, 20 webhooks, scripts and MQTT are available, without a permanent cloud connection. Combined with a temperature sensor such as the Shelly H&T Gen3, it makes a simple control system based on room temperature.
Installation and wiring
- Dimensions of 37 × 42 × 16 mm allow installation in a standard flush-mounting box.
- Screw terminals for conductors 0.5–4 mm², stripping length 6–7 mm.
- When powered from the mains, the neutral conductor must also be connected. The circuit must be protected by a circuit breaker with B or C characteristic and a rated current of max. 16 A.
- Connection to the mains may only be carried out by a person with the appropriate electrical qualification.

Does it work without the internet?
Schedules and scripts run directly in the relay; internet access is only needed for remote control from your phone when you are away from home.
