Heat source selection guide

Your customer wants to know whether a gas condensing boiler, an electric boiler or a heat pump makes more sense for their house – and what output it should have. This guide gives you a first answer backed by figures, before you even carry out a site survey or prepare a quote.

In five steps you enter the basic details of the building: heated floor area, ceiling height, number of occupants, insulation level, the heat source under consideration, the type of heat emitters and how hot water will be produced. The guide then works out:

  • the estimated heat loss of the house and the recommended heat source output,
  • the annual heat demand for space heating and domestic hot water,
  • a comparison of annual and monthly running costs for gas, electricity and a heat pump – energy prices can be overwritten with your customer’s current tariff,
  • indicative sizes for the circulation pump, expansion vessel, hot water cylinder, radiators or underfloor heating pipe and manifold, together with links to matching products in our online shop.

Results update instantly whenever you change an input. The figures are estimates only: the calculation uses typical heat loss per cubic metre of living space for each insulation level and the climate of central Slovakia (around 3,400 degree days). Precise sizing of the heat source is a job for a heating designer, who will carry out a heat load calculation to EN 12831.

Solid fuel boilers (such as ATMOS) are not included in the cost comparison. If your customer is considering one, or you would like to talk the results through with us, email info@atria.sk or call +421 917 133 662 (working days 7:30–15:30 CET). Registered trade partners see their wholesale prices for the recommended products once logged in.
