Tester for network cables terminated with RJ-11,12,45 or coaxial cables and USB connectors. It can detect if the cable is not broken, if some cores are shorted or detect the type of cable - patch or cross. It can test both loose cables directly with the tester, as well as cables embedded with the tester and a special terminator that simply attaches to the other end of the cable. This simple device is mainly used to check the correctness of the pair connection (so-called Wire Map) of the data cable on the components of the structured cabling. What is a Wire Map? This parameter checks the correct wiring of individual pairs in a socket or patch panel, including the shield connections in STP cabling. It also checks the passage of the signal along the entire length of the cable - i.e. it can warn about a break in one of the wires or their short circuit. The Wire Map parameter is very important, but alone it cannot ensure error-free functionality of the installed computer network. Even a very simple measuring device is sufficient to measure the correctness of the wiring map. What to do if the Wire Map parameter shows an error? First, it is necessary to check the correctness of the wiring of the individual wires in the terminal block. If the wiring is correct - i.e. it corresponds to the standardized diagrams T568A or T568B and the Wire Map still shows an error, there may be several causes: a miscut wire in the terminal block, a break inside the cable, or a short circuit. More advanced measuring instruments can pinpoint the location of the error with a fair amount of accuracy when evaluating the measurement, thus simplifying troubleshooting.
