The Ermenrich Verk FB20 brake fluid tester is a small, easy-to-use device for checking the quality of brake fluid. During operation, moisture can accumulate in it, which reduces its consumable properties. If too much moisture builds up, the brake system can fail. It is therefore recommended to check the brake fluid regularly.

The working principle of the tester is based on measuring the conductivity of the liquid. The probe of the tester is placed in the brake fluid; by default it operates in DOT 3 mode and can be switched to DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 mode by pressing a button. The instrument performs the measurement in a few seconds: the display shows the percentage of moisture and the display changes to green, yellow or red. A value between 0-2% and a green display means that everything is fine. At a value of 2-3%, a yellow display and an audible signal indicate a recommendation to change the brake fluid. At a value of 4%, a red display and rapid beeping indicate that the brake fluid should be changed immediately.

The device works on batteries. For reliable measurements it is necessary to monitor their capacity: the instrument will warn you if they need to be replaced.
