Some outside taps and standpipes use a 1'' thread rather than the more common 3/4'' found on garden hose fittings - this adapter bridges the two, screwing onto the 1'' tap and reducing down to 3/4'' internal thread on the outlet side.
Once fitted, any standard 3/4'' hose connector, quick-connector or nozzle attaches as normal, so a larger tap doesn't rule out using ordinary garden hose accessories.
