Where the 1/2" and 3/4" sizes protect a single fixture or branch, the 1" version is meant for the point where water enters an apartment or small house – the main shut-off before the distribution splits to individual rooms. Its larger bore keeps pressure loss low even at full household flow, while the internal magnetic insert continues to remove ferrous particles that a mesh alone would miss.
