The FR4 epoxy insulation sheet measuring 0.5 × 300 × 300 mm is a handy format for anyone assembling their own battery from prismatic LiFePO4 cells who does not need a large panel. It is exceptionally thin yet strong, so it separates cells without needlessly enlarging the assembly.

Insulation is essential because cells swell and shrink gently as they charge and discharge. If there is no adequate barrier between the aluminium casings, the blue film may tear and cause a dangerous short circuit.

Main advantages

• Electrical resistance: FR4 has outstanding dielectric properties and, at just 0.5 mm thick, forms a complete barrier between neighbouring cells.
• Mechanical protection: the sheet acts as a spacer so the aluminium casings do not chafe against each other, and it withstands the pressure produced when cells are clamped together in the battery box.
• Thermal stability: LiFePO4 cells heat up at high currents, but the non-flammable sheet keeps its properties at elevated temperatures and contributes to the fire safety of the system.
• Space saving: the slim build does not enlarge the battery, so you do not lose precious millimetres between the cells.
• Cut to size: the 300 × 300 mm square is easy to trim or cut to the dimensions of your cells – for example 280 Ah, 100 Ah or 304 Ah.
