A battery pack made of prismatic LiFePO4 cells needs dependable insulation between the cells. This FR4 epoxy sheet measuring 0.5 × 1000 × 1000 mm is remarkably thin yet strong, and the large format gives you enough material to cut several separators.

The reason is that cells change size slightly during charging cycles, swelling and then contracting. If there is no suitable layer between their aluminium casings, the blue film can tear and a severe short circuit may result.

What the sheet delivers

• Dielectric strength: FR4 insulates extremely well, so even a thin 0.5 mm layer reliably separates neighbouring cells.
• Protection against abrasion: the sheet works as a mechanical spacer and withstands the pressure produced when cells are squeezed together in the battery box.
• Heat resistance: LiFePO4 cells warm up at high currents, but the non-flammable sheet stays stable and improves fire safety for the entire assembly.
• No wasted millimetres: thanks to its slim build, the overall dimensions of the battery hardly increase.
• Simple adjustment: from the 1000 × 1000 mm format you can cut pieces to match your cells, for example 304 Ah, 280 Ah or 100 Ah.
