The FR4 epoxy insulating board (0.5 x 155 x 110 mm) is a key safety component in any professional LiFePO4 battery pack. Stacked prismatic (box-type) cells expand and contract slightly during charging cycles. Without sufficient insulation between the aluminium cell casings, the blue insulating film can be punctured, resulting in a serious short circuit.

Building your own battery storage? Do not underestimate insulation. The board is ultra-thin yet exceptionally tough, so it adds no unnecessary bulk to your battery. The 155 x 110 mm format is easy to adapt - cut or trim it to the exact dimensions of your cells.
